Gearing up for a Book Release

If I’m being honest, working up to the book release date has been the most stressful and I’ve learned a lot. There are several things I wish I would have done differently, but this is my first time doing anything like this, as it’s my debut novel.

Marketing has been my biggest challenge because I don’t know what to do first. Several coaches have told me the best thing to do is warm up an audience and get them excited for the book release, but there’s a seesaw affect in play. If I begin marketing too early, I may gain several followers that will lose interest quickly. On the other hand, if I begin too late, my book may not gain enough traction fast enough and the book will flop after release.

Unfortunately, the latter is where I’m falling. According to several marketing coaches, I should have already released several statements online about my book and done a press release. I’m not sure what has stopped me from doing either of these things. Maybe fear of failure? Fear of success, believe it or not. The possibility of people hating it. The possibility of people loving it and wanting more before I have the second or even third book completely finished (both are in the works and the second one is nearly done).

Or maybe it’s the fact that I’ve always wanted this and now I am just a few steps away from it becoming my reality. '

Have you ever felt this way before? How did you work through it?

Inquiring minds want to know.
